Providing fodder, shade and shelter, Old Man Saltbush is a dependable grower to help you get through the hard times. Very drought hardy, you'll find it still actively growing through the heat of summer. Whether grazed directly or cut and fed to livestock, the plant will regrow vigorously. Avoid continuous grazing and you'll be surprised at how much biomass it can put on. Grows in a wide range of soil types, though ideal is neutral to alkaline ( pH 6-8.5), low fertility, free draining soil. Spreading out to 2-4m wide and up to 3m tall, they can form excellent windbreaks and shade for livestock.

Handy Hints
- control stock access to prevent overgrazing - either plant in shelterbelts on the outside of paddocks then cut fodder as required or plant in paddocks, graze plants directly for maximum of a few days then allow suitable rest time for plants to recover ( months)
